The Main Event: Closer Than the Record Book Will Say
Natalia Silva won the vacant women's flyweight title by unanimous decision over Wang Cong, 48-47 twice and 49-46 on the third card. The scores undersell how much Wang actually did. Silva took the first two rounds clean, including a head kick that briefly buckled Wang midway through round two, but Wang won rounds four and five on at least one judge's card each, and actually out-landed Silva in total strikes, 147-133. Silva's edge came in significant strikes (109-98) and three takedowns. It's Silva's 15th straight win and her third over a former champion in a row, following Jessica Andrade, Alexa Grasso, and Rose Namajunas. She's the fourth undisputed women's flyweight champion in UFC history.
A Genuinely Wild Card
Eleven of the twelve graded fights ended in a finish, nine of them in the first round -- a real record night for the promotion. Anthony Wint needed 23 seconds to finish Lucas Armand. Johnny Walker made his heavyweight debut a highlight reel, stopping Mick Parkin in round one. Imanol Rodriguez, Damian Pinas, and Roman Kopylov all finished their opponents before the midpoint of round one. Alexander Hernandez snapped Rafael Dos Anjos's two-year layoff short with a second-round finish. Almost nobody on this card needed the judges.
Vettori's Streak Hits Five
Marvin Vettori lost to Ismail Naurdiev by decision -- his fifth straight loss, and his fourth straight by decision specifically. A former middleweight title challenger is now on the longest skid of his career, and nothing about the finish column is changing it. Naurdiev, a five-time Austrian wrestling champion who worked as a truck mechanic before fighting full time, is 5-3 across two separate UFC stints.
Court McGee's Last Fight Didn't Get the Ending Anyone Wanted
McGee's announced retirement fight, in his home state of Utah sixteen years after he won The Ultimate Fighter 11, ended in a third-round TKO loss to Eric Nolan. Nolan had been winless in the UFC at 0-2 coming in. It's not the storybook ending the night was built around, but McGee walked away from his final Octagon appearance having given everything he had against a hungrier opponent.
A Late Swap Nobody Saw Coming
Marcus McGhee's scheduled fight with Benardo Sopaj was pulled before the card after Sopaj suffered an injury in fight week. McGhee stayed on, taking a short-notice fight against UFC newcomer Anthony Romero instead -- and finished him by TKO in the first round. It's a real win for McGhee, but since the model never analyzed that matchup, it's not part of the graded card record below.
Where the Model Landed
7 of 10 graded fights correct (70%), including the main event call on Silva at 64% confidence, by the right method. The misses: King Green (lost to Esteban Ribovics), Ateba Gautier (lost to Roman Kopylov), and Marvin Vettori, named above.
